Announcers

It's new poll time, but with an added twist.

The latest poll asks: How do you like your announcers?

Because of sport-specific channels and digital sports packages, we have far more to choose from now than even a decade ago when we were limited to national broadcasts and regional sports networks. It's possible that now more than any other time in the history of sports broadcasting, we are more critical or supportive of the (wo)men who call the games because either the schtick has gone stale or they aren't bigger homers than we'd like or they tend to say too much about the games we watch.

Announcers can be akin to referees or umpires; while they perform publicly for the masses, they are only noticed for an unmistakable trait, a phenomenal screw-up or perceived favoritism. With the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals hand the major league spotlight to baseball for the next two-and-a-half months - we'll miss you, indoor leagues of leisure - the most recognized voices in all of sports will give us reasons to enjoy the action or throw something at our TVs, computers and radios.

So, after voting, feel free to share thoughts on those lead announcers (regardless of sport or location, and not the color commentators) that ruffle the feathers or call the games the way you'd prefer.

Something tells me that for every positive reflection of this man...

there will be scorn for this one...
