$250

It's hard to forget the hoopla surrounding Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James' appearance in last year's ALDS. Proudly sporting his adoration to the New York Yankees with a team cap, he sat in the stands admist throngs of the Cleveland Indians faithful. Of course, he was railed on by local media (expected) as well as national sports pundits (unfortunately expected) because he is the epicenter of Ohio's sporting landscape.

He had always been a Yankees fan, as athletes around the globe still hold their allegiances for various sports and teams. His fandom wasn't going to change because he is now a professional athlete in a city whose sports doldrums are well chronicled. And why should it? After all, we're all fans, no matter what we do or where we relocate to.

Now, he's going to get it for sure.

Of course, this is a huge stylistic upgrade from the rest of his line. The sneaker, as you can see, screams Yankees, much to the chagrin of anyone who bleeds Cleveland sports or truly despises the Bronx Bombers. The sneaker (for the moment) is only available in the New York City area. Yet if the look of the sneaker or the initial lack of availability make fans cringe, just imagine when they see the price.

Not even in his playing prime did Michael Jordan hawk a $250 sneaker.

$250?!?!

Maybe Scribe thinks paying bills is a bit more important, but what are your thoughts on the new shoe?

Perhaps I'm not the best one to comment on this, but if it's a really great shoe/sneaker and it fits like a glove, then it just might be worth the $250. It all depends. I will admit to being guilty of spending a hefty price on some footwear but I rarely regret it.

It's like with bags. It is often completely worth it to pay a pretty penny for a really great, well-made one because it will last through the years. In the long run, you actually end up saving.

I think because I’m not a sneaker connoisseur, I’m not the most educated on how pricing may not be the best variable to work with. With that said, if you have it, do it. If you don’t, don’t wear them to school if you’re under the age of 20. You will get jacked for your kicks, guaranteed.

There was only one pair of sneakers I ‘needed’ to have when they came out. I was in the seventh grade and I wanted the Air Huaraches. I got the white pair with the black piping and the jade tongue (there were two girls named Jade in my class and they were fine as all hell for seventh graders, but cool like you wouldn’t believe). They were $75 at the famed Dugout back in 1995 (I think I wore a size 6 ½ or something) and I was amped because I finally beat everyone on the block to the fly kicks.

And I proceeded to mangle those sneakers six months later while playing football, baseball and basketball. I understand the dynamics about having the freshest gear out to impress folks, but I still cannot get beyond the price. Not that I think there are way too may people whose priorities are a bit screwed up, but James isn’t Jordan (nor should try to be).
